Elektra by Richard Strauss

A one-act opera in a by Richard Strauss in slavic setting in German...

The beginning... Clytemnestra together with her lover Aegisthus killed her husband Agamemnon...

Agamemnon's and Clytemnestra's daughter Elektra of course is deeply traumatized and obsessed by the memory of her father...

the only thing she thinks of is avenge!

Although news comes that her brother Orestes is dead, it turns out that the stranger who came with news is actually Orestes... who kills his mother.

All the guys are belonging to the clan of the Atrides, and the clan misfit can be traced back to the king Tantalus slaughtered his sun Pelopos and served him up as a dish for the gods in order to test their omniscience... and believe me, you don't want to hear about his punishment and the full story of the Atrides family... As a curiosity, Electra character has been part of the study in hysteria by Sigmund Freud...

The set design and costume design is modernistic and gives extra twist to the drama...

This is actually quite terrifying psychodrama, directed very authentically and sharp with very good singes performance.

By the way, Pelops was brought back to live by the gods...

Views of Copenhagen's rooftops: Café Hovedtelegrafen

Although it is placed in the middle of the downtown, and offers an impressive view, obviously, not many Copenhageners actually know Café Hovedtelegrafen.

As a part of the Post & Tele Museum the entrance is from the one of the most busiest street in Copenhagen; Købmagergade. Take an elevator and off you go... directly on the top of the Copenhagen downtown.

You'll get an OK lunch platter...

and unique view which gives a delightful experience, especially during the sunny days.

Don't miss this, but book in advance.

Madklubben Steak

The restaurant is situated at the former Café Ketchup, which brings me a memories of a good time spend there; one of the best cocktails and funky parties ;-)

This is a sister restaurant of Madklubben and Anders Aagaard Jensen respond to MASH.

What we had:

Striploin steak...

biff's steak.

In short, one can have a very good wines, especially California Cabs with a low markups, but unfortunately, I'm not very impressed by the food.

This (first class) steaks comes from the Rocky Mountains, but it is waggly comparable with other first class steaks I've had chances to taste. Good part is, this is reflected in the price; you get a bill for half price compared for example with MASH.

Is this worthy of trying? Yes, and book late (from 19.30 to 21) so you can keep the table as long as you wish.

Summer house dinner in April...

From the tray...

on the table...

Wash down with 2006 Chateau Kamnik, Ten Barrels, Cabernet, Macedonia
Deep ruby, ripe black fruits, game, mocha... very complex. Full boded, perfectly balanced, with ripe and silky tannins. Gorgeous long finish... Drinks very well now but will develop even more complexity, so keep. (93 pts)

mmmm....

Restaurant Etika

Directly from Faroese, Jens Rahbek re-invent sushi kitchen in Copenhagen. Of course he has a lot of experience his brother Kim actually has been behind Sticks'n'Sushi, one of the best fast-food chain sushi restaurant in Copenhagen...

Etika sushi menu span from 275 kr up to 1100 kr... so it is quite ambitious restaurant, but my previous experience tells me Jens can pull it off (see here).

What we had:

Boring but tasty california Uramaki...

North Atlantic scallops, langoustine and maguro... simply amazing and these are among the best I've tasted in in Denmark, especially langoustine.

the kitchen...

the entrance...

And the second try:

Spicy octopus salad (Tako)... delicate and without any elastic texture...

Inside-out softshell crab (kani) and Maguro to abocado...

and good cocktail as a desert...

Such a freshness, taste and silky texture is quite rarely tasted in Copenhagen, and all achieved by the quality of raw materials!

Recommended.
